Capability always comes first, but chemistry between mill and customer is a nice bonus when you can get it.

Cody and Sage Disch had a big idea, and they were in search of a mill to help them achieve it. Inspired by the style and achievements of their industrialist grandfather, Raymond Everett “Ace” Disch Sr., the New York City-based brothers were launching a new company called Ace & Everett. With long-term plans of growing their idea into a full apparel brand, they were beginning with socks. And not your everyday socks.

“Once we toured the mill we knew we’d found the right place.”

Aesthetically refined, boldly styled, functionally superior, distinctive in every way, their designs took inspiration from New York’s iconic symbols and architecture, fused them with imagery from nature and other motifs to create something wholly original. A lot was riding on these socks. They would launch their brand on these socks. Finding the right mill was, in a word, everything.

They considered 10 companies, visited two and made repeated visits to one: Harriss & Covington. “Once we toured the mill,” Cody said, “we knew we’d found the right place. We saw immediately their capabilities and how much they valued the fine details which are so important to our products. But just as important it was clear these were honest, trustworthy, quality-driven people who would be a joy to work with.”

It’s difficult not to acknowledge the parallel story lines&emdash;the brothers Disch working together, reviving a family tradition. The three Covington brothers, Tyler, Braden and Chris, fifth generation sock makers, continuing the family’s legacy. You could say fate played some role in bringing the two companies together. But the truth is it’s about the capabilities and the collaboration.

Ace & Everett

“Tyler and his team believed in our vision from the start,” Cody said. “The heritage and craftsmanship is certainly an important part of Harriss & Covington, and we proudly weave their story into ours through our marketing efforts. But more so, it’s the time and the resources they invest in us that makes them so very unique.

“I really consider Tyler a mentor, someone who I look to for guidance and wisdom,” Cody continued. “His whole team really brings creative insight into the product. It’s a place where I can bounce ideas off of Tyler and others whenever I am thinking of a new silhouette, a new yarn, a new design.

“They constantly surprise me and truly embrace the philosophy of under promise and over deliver.”
